Cambrian Snowdonian Railtour

One or two clips starting to appear on YouTube of Saturday's first
ever visit of a Deltic to the Cambrian.

I know one or two might think a Deltic on the Cambrian is somewhat
incongruous but hey for sheer novelty value.

This is the best clip I’ve found hopefully some more will appear of
the special along the coastal bit. You know, that bit where you come
home hogging the coast for two hours and you’re still no nearer home
than when you first started back i.e. the best bit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nidodfL-rTw

Don’t you just love all the 1960s pollution that could be designed out
of 3300 bhp – those were the days.

No it wasn't. D9016 became the first Deltic over the Cambrian when it
worked a railtour from Newtown to Carlisle on 28th September 2002. A
superb outing.

ISTR in the dim and distant that 9016 was never really supposed to be
preserved anyway. Was it not bought purely to provide spares for
D9000, and someone came up with the idea of keeping it as well. Then
Porterbrook got their hands on it, painted it purple with those awful
modern light clusters, and lent it to Virgin who sent it to BNS,
Paddington, Ramsgate and several points in between. Well the point of
this post is that I'm sure I read somewhere very recently that it was
to be stripped and scrapped. Am I imagining it or is it reality? Who
owns it now, and why would they now decide to do this? And most
importantly, has Captain Deltic mobilised his strike force yet???
