As I said before, every cloud has a silver lining.
"The worsening economy combined with soaring petrol prices is driving
people out of their cars and on to public transport, according to
Arriva, the bus and train operator, which today reported a 40 per cent
increase in pre-tax profit.
London's biggest bus operator, which also operates in 12 European
countries, is seeing the benefits of people shifting from cars and
aeroplanes to buses and trains, with a 59 per cent increase in revenue
in the first six months to June 30..."

Gollum the "radical" is delighted that a big plc increases its
profits.
How much of that 40%% increase do you think came from increased
passenger numbers, and how much from above-inflation fare increases,
Gollum? Still, as a non-motorist those higher fares come out of your
pocket.

So we should be happy being ripped off by the bus and rail companies, should
we? Maybe, then, I should support the proposed bus strike in London
( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7576073.stm). Or should I just
see it as yet more bolshy unions giving me a very good reason NOT to use
public transport?

I don't give a fuck, I don't travel on "loser cruisers" and unless I
suddenly develop a pressing wish to contract nits or lice or smell poverty,
I can't imagine that changing anytime soon.

The silver lining in this case being the fact that Arriva are shafting their
customers.

Conductor? Were you on a London heritage route or are you, as I suspect,
just a FW?
Brian.
