"Death of Marie Vesco

The death of Marie Vesco, aged 19, en route to the Carnival Against
the Arms Trade outside the Arms Factory EDO-MBM, has been a blow to
everyone involved in the campaign. Marie and her friends were cycling
from London to Brighton to participate when her bicycle was hit by a
car. Marie was a committed anti-war activist with the Whitechapel Food
Not Bombs and the Brixton Reclaim Your Food groups. Her commitment
against climate change and war was what motivated her and her 11
companions to cycle from London to Brighton for the protest.

A close friend of Marie’s said, “She was a very warm and generous
person who was always laughing and always made people laugh. She had
just moved in with her boyfriend and had plans to open a social
centre. She was very giving and always lent a helping hand. Things
will never be the same without her.”

The fact that she was killed on the roads, whilst cycling lawfully and
safely, speaks volumes about the priorities of the British government.
Whilst arms dealers are subsidised to the tune of billions of pounds,
the relatively small amount of money that it would take to provide
safe cycle lanes for bikes is held back.

Good. Another nutter dead.

And BTW, I take it they didn't take into account the effects on the
environment that cycling that distance had?

They're hardly likely to say she was a bitch, are they?

Yes, very sad.

Hypocrite!!!!!. You then post a link to terrorist action being
conducted by your mates, I bet you were too shit scared to go there
yourself.
> [14:55] About 200 people have got into the car park, having managed to block a police van which attempted to block the gate. Car windows and factory windows have been smashed. Police are getting into formation to try and evict the people in the car park.
> [14:35] Marchers have managed to push through the police cordon, which was trying to prevent marchers from getting to EDO/ITT. Marchers are on the road directly outside the factory - which is protected by a line of officers. EDO/ITT management are watching from the windows.

This is not peaceful protesting, it is violent terrorism,
Hypocritically conducted in the name of peace by your mates.
Not only that, the protest masquerading as a critical mass will cause
extra danger for cyclists, cause lawabidding cyclists like myself to
be alienated, and discourage cycling. Once again a bit of an own goal
by your terrorist mates.

Pah. Frivolous hypermobility.

Was she? Nothing in the report mentions anything about the circumstances
of the collision.

Meanwhile, cyclists refuse to use that are provided. Rightly so, in most
cases.

It's simple. Either bicycles are transport - in which case, they should
be using the roads - or they are not - in which case, they should not be
using the roads.

The more cyclists use roads, the safer the roads will be for cyclists,
because drivers will become more aware of cyclists, and the cyclists will
use their increased experience of road traffic to cycle defensively and
safely.

It must be peaceful protesting, they are obviously people who Doug
admires, although he does not seem to have had the balls to go there
himself. The workers, police & public who were attacked & intimidated
obviously deserved everything they got, how dare they have a job & live
near such a place.

By the way Doug, how many years do you have to stop driving before you
are a non-motorist?
I only ask this as you seem to have missed the previous requests.

Indeed. Have you noticed that whenever a kid gets abducted or murdered,
it's apparently never the ugly thick troublemakers?

Her death is a tragedy. However I'm puzzled about why her obituary does
not mention her habit of eating from dustbins nor her arrest record.
