Another good reason to shift rail subsidies to building new roads.

Date: Mar 25, 2008 04:26

After Christmas and this bank holiday weekend where large parts of the rail
network decided to shut down, today South West trains have announced that
there will be a 4 day strike by it's Aslef workers from the 31st of March
till the 3rd of April. With the rail network showing it's big flaws left
right and centre it's now time to stop the government paying the big
subsidies to the rail network and transfer it to the far more reliable road
network.

During several wars, uprisings and terror campaigns, it became even more
self evident that large modern buildings should not be built with large
areas of exposed glass. So most are.

More reliable - bollocks my arse!

The only reason road closures, huge tailbacks and road works don't
make the news is because they happen every day and everywhere.

It's the sheer reliability of the railways that causes them to get
headlines when something does go wrong.

I'm a motorist and a dedicated user of the railway for those longer
business trips (roughly every two weeks).

I can honestly say the worst delay I have ever experienced by train
has been only two hours and I can count on the fingers of one hand the
number of times that has occurred.

My horror car journeys seem to occur almost every other f**king week
and include five hours stuck on the M1 and worst of all a trip to the
DIY store ten minutes away that took six hours (coming back) one
Saturday on the M42.

Are you honestly saying you want more cars and lorries on the already
overflowing road network? What you want is more subsidies to at least
get the freight onto the rail and free up the roads.
