Umm, in case you hadn't noticed, there's not exactly a booming economy at
the moment.
Those people will not find it easy to find new work in the (desperately
contracting) industry their qualifications and experience are in. When
they do find work, they will be earning far less. Many of them have
mortgages, and many may well now or soon have negative equity.
They will lose their homes, still owe money, and be generally fucked. If
any of them have other debts, they may well be forced into bankruptcy.
Many of the thousands of customers will have to pay a lot more to get
some of the few, and massively over-subscribed, empty seats on other
flights back to the UK. Others have had the stress of having their
holiday cancelled at very short notice, many without much chance of
getting a refund for all or part of the expense.
And you're cheering this.
