Goodie! Yet another deterrent to motoring. How much more will it take
to stop all those cars clogging the roads and killing people with
their emissions?
"THE cost of family cars is set to rise under plans for a new
“showroom tax” to be unveiled in this week’s budget.
Alistair Darling is planning a series of green taxes designed to force
consumers to become more environmentally friendly. The centrepiece of
the chancellor’s first budget is expected to be a levy on new cars,
which could put £2,000 on the price of the largest “gas guzzlers”.
However, it will hit also families buying saloons, estates and people
carriers. “People don’t take much account of the cost of car tax and
fuel when buying a car, it is the price sticker in the showroom that
makes the difference,” said a senior Treasury official..."

But Doug, Darling is targetting those people who he knows can afford to
cough up. It's a safe move on the part of the government; they can claim
it's a green tax and therefore their environmental credentials are all
in order but in reality it's an easy earner for them and it means they
don't have to make tough choices elsewhere.
It has nothing to do with the environment no matter what spin the
government puts on it. It will do nothing to reduce the number of cars
on the road as I know, everyone here knows, the government knows, and I
suspect you know as well.
But you'll applaud it because it fits with your bizarre agenda despite
the fact that it is just more spin and lies.

In what way are emissions killing people, pray tell?
Anyway, I thought car tax was scrapped many years ago. A rather retrograde
step, I think.

You mean, stop people actually doing useful things like "getting to work" ?

More NuLab bollocks - it's just another "it's GW so we can get away with
another tax that isn't a tax" as long as we demonise the victims first.
The only people who DON'T consider the running costs before buying a car are
those that have the money to not be affected by this Yes purchase
price is important, but to suggest that people don't consider the tax and
fuel costs (and insurance) is a complete and utter lie (or a demonstration
that the people involved shouldn't be let loose in the job).

And lets not forget to remind the good readers that there are several
conventional diesels which outperform the Pious on fuel consumption - because
the Pious is so inefficient at anything but stop-start driving.

Two new car threads in one day Doug. Didn't you tell us that you don't start
car related threads? You wouldn't tell us porkies would you?

Dougs answer to that is: "move closer to your place of work"
... I'm not sure which country I need to move to

And once again Doug takes glee in the misery and tragic deaths of others.
