How do I get a refund on my Oyster Card?
On Tuesday 26/06/07 I had a much disrupted journey between Walthamstow
Central and Paddington.
Having entered Walthamstow Central underground we were advised to use the
overground services instead. These were overcrowded and therefore when it
was announced a few minutes later that the Victoria line was running I
re-entered the station.
I was unable to alight at Kings X which was closed due to overcrowding.
Instead I had to exit at Euston and walk to Euston Square to pick up the
circle line.
Euston Square station was extremely overcrowded and we were advised by staff
not to use the barriers. I did try to swipe my Oystercard but the barriers
seem to have been switched off. Consequently I have been overcharged.
The journey history looks like this:
26/06/07
09:21 Paddington Exit

[...snip...]
You could phone the Oyster help desk but I find it easier to contact them by
e-mail using what used to be called 'Ask Oyster', and anecdotal evidence
suggests the e-mail team are a lot more effective at solving problems. If
you go to https://transportforlondon.custhelp.com/ and select the Oyster
tab, you can then used the 'My Oyster' link to e-mail them. Just give them
the number of your Oyster card and explain what happened and they'll be able
to sort it. Unless instructed otherwise they'll probably send you a refund
as a voucher thingy you have to cash at a ticket office which is a pain, but
apparently you can request the refund be applied when you pass through the
gates at a nominated station, just like a top-up.

Didn't they say that entering/exiting the same station in a short amount
of time (10 min?) is now free?

Did they refund the cost of the premium rate phone call?

No - but at 3.5 pence per minute it hardly matters.

Non geographic calls (especially 0870 calls) are premium rates, they
aren't included in most free call price plans etc. They don't
advertise the geographic number anywhere.
Either way, a 20 minute call at 4p per minute (the last time I tried
to get my money back) is 80p, not worth it if you're trying to get a
weekend non-zone-1 ticket back.
