Since London's South Bank is already pedestrianised and rather nice, i can
well see the point of pedestrianising the north as well.

I've never heard the South Bank called "nice" before... but I haven't used
it in a while. Is it full up then?

Okay, but is it full up? Are there so many people sunbathing there that the
North Bank needs to be pedestrianised too?

Can't see how that will work. I used to work right next to that road
and just by the sheer amount of traffic on it it must take a large
proportion of the east-west through traffic, a lot of it trucks and
coaches. If they close it the west end will probably sieze up. Theres
probably a case for narrowing it though , a dual carraigeway IMO is
overkill.

I would suggest thats a bit of myth. A lot of the french go on holiday
in august but saying the whole of paris shuts down is nonsense. I've
been there in august and the traffic in the centre was just as bad as
at any other time of year.

What does that mean John? Transport schemes aren't only based upon
when something's "full up". Improving the quality of the local
environment is also a laudable aim. I grant you that the needs of
other road users must also be considered, but having filled other
pedestrian locations isn't the prerequisite for opening a new one.
