On my train I often get someone who commutes (first off peak of the day)
to London and uses a weird ticket combination.
Passenger asks for a Single ticket from origin (a One Rail station in
North Essex) to Harold Wood with a Senior Card - no problems there.
Then passenger has a freedom pass to cover the section from HRO to
Liverpool Street, the train used to get to London doesn't stop at Harold
Wood as its a One mainline service - but I assume this is ok, as the
Freedom Pass is effectively a travelcard.
Then on the return uses a Saver from London, which is apparently "bought
in advance" Its obvious whats happening, she's using the same saver
until it either gets marked or expires, but anyway......
But the out journey - I assume this is abuse of this particular ticket?
Don't FP holders need to be London residents?

And in other possible scams, the chap sat opposite me yesterday on a
Derby-Nottingham train bought a single to Long Eaton from the train
manager. And stayed on the train all the way to Nottingham.
Of course, he might have already had a Long Eaton to Nottingham single
in his pocket, but how likely is that? If he was stopped at Nottingham
he could easily have said he'd come from Beeston.

However it would certainly be good to have confirmation from one of
our ticketing gurus as to whether the above is a legit combination.

Gutsy on a staffed train.

It's most unlikely the TM would sweep the train twice. My observations
are that they do it once each on the Nottingham/Derby and
Derby/Birmingham legs.

But it is possible to be resident in more than one place, hence
students (and the Duke of Devonshire) on more than one electoral roll.
