My 15 year old, who’s had a massive growing spurt, would like to get
custom fitted for a Callaway driver. Callaway because that is what he
has now. We live in North Hertfordshire. He would like to apply a
bit of science to the process; i.e. have his swing speed analysed,
launch angle checked etc. We tried American Golf and to be frank they
were awful. He was plugged into their computer and hit 3 balls with
two different drivers (lack of choice for a left hander) and they told
him his swing speed and that he was in between a stiff and regular!.
They then said if he wants to get fitted properly then he should go to
Callaway but there was a three month wait!
Does anyone of a ‘good’ custom fitter in our area (North
Hertfordshire). We don’t mind travelling a bit.

I am hoping to start playing golf after about 2 years but at the range I
couldn't stop the shanks! I had a lesson and the pro pointed out the
problem - a loopy off-plane swing. He gave me some drills and I would like
some tips from fellow golfers on how to embed the changes in my swing.
What is considered the best wayor what worked for you to embed a change in
the swing - is it by whacking a few hundred balls or is there a better tried
and tested approach?
Thank you for your input.

Did anybody record the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic and still has
it, preferably on DVD?
Of course I'll be paying for shipping and other costs!

My ball comes to rest against the inside of the white stake or at rest
touching the out of bounds line. Is it out of bounds?
If it is, would you pls direct me to the relevant rule.
Thank you.

All those who have expressed an interest should now have had an email
with details of deposit . If you've not got one and think you should
have, then please let me know.

We have a meeting shortly at my club to determine whether or not to
implement new EGU proposals on what are termed Supplementary scores. I
have to give my opinion, for what it is worth, and have written quite
a long (as is usual) note. I just wonder whether I have covered all
points necessary and ask those who may be interested to give their
thoughts to it here.
If you do reply then think of it from not only a personal point of
view but also from a voluntary time-consuming committee point of view.
Below I have copied the EGU's proposal for those who haven't read it.
It can affect all club members from this year on.
Thanks for anybody's time.
Pat Williams
Supplementary Scores (UHS = Unified Handicapping System)
The UHS is based on the expectation that every player will return a
sufficient number of scores to provide reasonable evidence of his
current ability. To operate in the intended manner, the UHS requires...

There is a serious lack of the usual annual whingeing from the Southern
Softies complaining about the format of the legendary USG North v. South
Annual Bash.
What do you want this year? Choose captains by lot and then all stand
against a wall waiting to be picked hoping that the team you're in has a
higher proportion from the Northern Whippets?
How about picking teams using handicap keeping everything as equal as
possible and then playing off the stick end like the RSG do sometimes.
You should have seen Richard Brown's face, playing off 28 against a 12
and a 14, when they pulled that one on us on the first tee at St Andrews
as few years ago - it was a picture! Still won our match though :-)
We could just play golf with no meaningful competition and enjoy each
other's company - yeah right!
Or why not just keep it as it is, with the usual identity crises, forced
repatriations, defectors and the occasional spy in the camp. Who knows,
the Softies may actually decide to stay up and enjoy the social the
night before instead of going to bed early which might actually bring
them overall victory for a change?
