Please excuse my ignorance of Scottish football, when Gordon Strachan first
took over at Celtic I read in an English newspaper that he would have a hard
job if things did not go right at first. It said Martin O Neill would be a
hard act to follow but also that Strachan was loathed by the Celtic fans
during his time as a player with Aberdeen. How much of this is true and if
so, why was he loathed during his playing day's ?

..he was a great wee player for Aberdeen at a time when they used to
come down to Glasgow and beat Celtic regularly.. I wouldn't say he was
loathed, it was more a respect for a good player of one of your rivals
manifesting itself as a lot of booing and ..erm attacking him with a
bottle on the pitch.. friendly banter..
..most managers leave a club under a cloud.. MON left because his wife
was ill.. MON was a Celtic supporter, Strachan wasn't.. Strachan's
managerial record before Celtic was hardly anything to shout about, and
he was in charge when Celtic suffered 2 of the worse defeats in their
history..

To the best of my knowledge *Mad Dog*
scratched their head in wonder and came up with...

I think it may be due to the fact he has ginger hair...
A recent manager of ours Alex McLeish - who incidentally played with Strachan at
Aberdeen - was a hated figure among the Celtic fans... again due to the colour of
his hair... "Sad Orange Bastard" were the regular chants.

A lot gets made of sectarianism and bigotry in this country Mad Dog, so I guess
the celtic support should be applauded for chanting about being Orange Bastards,
and leaving umm... religion and emm politics.. *out* of it...?
hmmm....
