Not sure how the Chinese view Mao as a consequence of him being ignored in
the opening ceremony. Wonder if he is still perceived as a great national
leader.

Wonder how the openning cermony will playout the history of our Isles or
will in only concentrate on the history of London? Maybe the Celts will get
a mention about being some of the first cockneys and the first to eat
jellied eels.. ;).

Didn't really notice anything recently in the press about Georgia but I
think Georgia was endeavouring to join NATO and this must have had some
implications for Russian-Georgian relations. Not sure what initially ignited
this conflagration, but Putin's claims of genocide would appear to be wide
of the mark. Also interestingly a BBC story was claiming that Putin would
appear to still be in charge of Russia. In contrast, Bush's days are
numbered. And the US is not in a financial state to enter into another Cold
War.
