In a society where purity is demanded of women only and men are
exempted, it is useless to talk about women's rights and privileges or
responsibilities which are the attributes of the equality demanded by
the Quran. According to the Quran the purity of body and soul which is
the hallmark of humans has equally demanded from both men and women.
If keeping herself chaste is the responsibility of the woman then she
has the right to demand this from the men as well. Just as it is
incumbent on the woman to keep herself chaste (24:31), it has also
been made obligatory for men to keep themselves chaste (24:30). In
fact men have been addressed first and women afterwards.

Keeping women confined in houses and forbidding them to go out is a
punishment according to the Quran. It is not Quranic modesty. Now the
question arises as to the manner of her staying at home and her...

Equal Opportunity

Muslims in Gamle -- "old town" Oslo, Norway -- applied for the
right to call worshipers to prayers, calling "Allahu akbar" ("God is
great") over loudspeakers. The neighborhood council granted the
request, to the delight of the World Islamic Mission. A spokesman said

Culture Shock

Two Muslim sisters, Meenah and Neenah, have just arrived in the
USA. On arrival they spot a hot dog vendor. Meenah says to Neenah,
"Look, people in this country eat dogs."
"Odd!" says Neenah, "but if we shall live in America, we might as
well do as the Americans do."

Nodding, they walk towards the hot dog vendor.

"Two dogs, please," says Neenah.

The vendor wraps two hot dogs and hands them over the counter.
Excited, the sisters hurry over to a bench and begin to unwrap their
'dogs'. Meenah is the first to open hers. She stares at it for a
moment and begins to blush. Then she leans over to Neenah and whispers
cautiosuly, "What part did you get?"

Israel sentences Islamist leader

An Israeli military court has sentenced the leader of the Popular
Front for the Liberation of Palestine to 30 years in jail for heading an
illegal terrorist organisation.

According to the court, Ahmad Saadat was responsible for actions
carried out by the group.

Saadat was seized by Israeli forces in March 2006 in a raid on a
Jericho prison, from where he would have been released.

Jerusalem wanted to prevent Palestinian authorities from letting him
go as they believed he was also responsible for the 2001 murder of Israeli
tourism minister Rehavam Ze'evi.

Prosecutors later decided not to pursue the Ze'evi case.

Hamas members of the Palestinian Legislative Council in
Gaza have approved a new bill "to implement Koranic
punishments," including hand amputation, crucifixion,
corporal punishment and execution. Drinking, owning or
producing wine is punished by 40 lashes, while drinking in
public adds three months' imprisonment. Several laws are
directed against Hamas's Palestinian rivals, including a
law intended to inhibit non-Hamas negotiators by sentencing
to death anyone who was "appointed to negotiate with a
foreign government on a Palestinian issue and negotiated
against Palestinians' interest." The following is the
