As i sat on the shore, watching some of my scouts get their 1 star and
another load muck around in toppers having a fantastic time, with the
sun shining and the breeze just right, with a cup of coffee in my hand
and a newspaper to read... all was perfect with the world...
An oldish chap... (late 50's ?!? apologies eddie et al... but that's
twice my age and officially 'nearly dead') came up to me "scouts are
you?" he asked. "Yup, i agreed."
" i used to be..." he said "but you can't do anything any more with
all these rules can you?"
it wasn't really worth arguing... i was gonna have a bit of a canoe
then spash around in a topper for a bit... why waste my breath?

When someone says that to me I ask what we can't do any more? To date
there has been no-one who has come up with anything Scouts used to do
that they can't still do.
