I have given up reading it. I haven't seen an article in 5 year that sounds
anything like the group/troop/unit that I have been involved with or even
picked up ideas that work with mine.

Our planning is simple, one night in September I nail them to the floor and
we brainstorm a list of activities. I type it up, make a grid of activities
vs kids and they tick what they are interested in, I take it from there.

I have given up trying to get that age group to take responsibility for
organising anything, we agree the target, they ignore it and do something
different which rarely works.

  Telegraph Discrimination Story, more information

This is the letter to Derek Twine and the Submission we made when we
had our meeting with him last week.

We would urge those members who feel sufficiently strongly about the
Association's discriminatory stance to write to media organisations in
protest about it.

  Making Money from Group Websites

Does anybody have any ways of making money from the use of their
websites? I can think of having an Amazon button to link to that site
and take a %% of the value spent, but are such deals popular and
productive?

UK: scout oath is religious discrimination

Author: Brian Westley
Date: Jan 31, 2008 12:32

I think it's pretty clear-cut that requiring a god-oath IS
religious discrimination, and (like in the US) the core issue is
whether the Scout Association can practice religious discrimination,
and that if it can, that it properly identify itself as a religious
organisation that requires members to believe in a god (or maybe
more):

Scout's oath 'is religious discrimination'

By Jonathan Petre, Religion Correspondent

The Scout Association has been reported to the equality watchdog for
allegedly discriminating against atheists by making them swear an oath
to God.

...

Members in Britain, where there are nearly half a million scouts, have
to promise to "do their best to do their duty to God and to the
Queen", to help other people and to keep Scout law.

To accomodate the movement's 28 million members around the world, the
words can be modified to encompass non-Christian faiths.

In an ideal world yes, but our risk assessment recons that it is more likely
to be stolen or have some joker attempt to set alight to it than we are to
have it stored, in fairly small quantities, in our store.

I agree they should be, but numerous people have said they store
within the building because they have too, small numbers are allowed
to be stored in a building, although not desirable and then of
course there is the portable cartridge camping gas type lights or
stoves that it would cover .

35 years ago there are notes in our minutes about building a gas store
- we now have a cage but need to build a concrete base for it - maybe
some time in the next 35 years we'll get it finished!

Alot of them aren't very big so are one man bands almost. I ended up
Yellow pages, well, Yell.co.uk, and phone calls. Quotes varied
massively, went for the one who's mum was a brown owl for 30 years!
(and they were the cheapest)

Last year I tried a couple of online "brokers" but they were so
expensive I assumed they weren't interested!

We participated last year and I thought registration was automatic for this
year, but we've not yet had an promotional material.

Has anyone else had there's yet?
