Catching up on posts this past weekend I see my son has been leaking
secrets! :-)
I wish he'd have used his own account instead of mine - obviously due
to searching my address books - and I hope I don't now get a bucket
load of spam. Grrr.....
To the one or two of you who may recall 'me' from the distant past,
hello again.
I'm back home now recovering well from the op though I've still got
many tests to go to get things sorted.
Thank you all for the many kind thoughts and get well soon messages.
It'll be a few months yet before I'm back even part-time scouting. For
now I'm enjoying the rest.
And talking of rest, it's time I took this personna back into the
sleepy distant past.
(Cue: Vera Lynn 'We'll meet again....' etc.)
:-)

I have recently been asked to act as Treasuer for a Group and I would
be interested to know if there is any ready made Computer Software to
manage the Income and Expenditure Accounts as they relate to
Scouting .ie Gift Aid Management, subs etc.

I know that this is a long shot - but does anyone have an electronic copy of
Management of Choice.
I know it is an old resource but there were quite a few programme ideas -
ours went up in flames.
There were some even older books but luckily I have copies of them if I need
them.
Thanks

On hike tents.
It is difficult for anyone to come to any definitive conclusion as to
what makes a good tent - you can list your requirements and priorities
but at the end of the day until you actually use it you won't know if
it is what you want.
Some too many years ago I managed to obtain a range of tents buckshee.
They varied from , at that time, a yet to be released sample through
to some regular styles.
I Have in my personal possession a:-
Jamet 2 man Ridge tent with cotton inner and sewn in plastic
groundsheet. It is now some 30 plus years old and although it has not
seen service for a few years is still useful.
A Mountain Hardware Trango 2 which has seen exactly the same use as
the rest of the tents, sometimes more. It is as good as new. If I
could afford to I'd equip the Group with 20 of them but at £420 - £480
a throw that isn't going to happen any time soon.
A Vaude II - an excellent tent, real quick to put up and until last
weekend sturdy. A ridge pole snapped.

Just a quick question,
If there is one is there a POR rule on hiking distances? IE can Cubs
hike 6miles? Tried looking through scoutbase but its not the easiest way
to get information without knowing what the wording is.

It's a rather long shot, but I don't suppose anyone can lend me a
yacht for a few days, sometime in the next couple of weeks?
It's for my 60-mile qualifying passages for RYA Yachtmaster, which I'm
booked in to take at the start of June - once I've got this
qualification, I'll be using it in Scouting.
My sailing experience: 6000+ sea miles including a trans-Atlantic.
All the best.
