  charities regulations

Author: Broooz
Date: Apr 9, 2008 13:17

We have been told that the charities regulations require us to add to all
communications our charity number and the fact that we are part of a
registered charity. I can understand that this applies to communications
outside the group although the suggestion is that it applies to any
communication with someone that is not a member and therefore we were told
to add it to all parental communications. I take the view that emails to
parents would not count as although technically not a member of the SA they
are entitled to vote at the Group Council and therefore to all intents and
purposes a "member".

  Beavers - Yellow Card/Red Card

Author: Looby

We are considering putting some kind of more formal system in place for
dealing with some of our Beavers who have "challenging behaviours" and have
considered the yellow and red card system and wondered whether any other
groups use this and if so what criteria do you use and what are the
consequences you put in place.

Any information would be gratefully received.

Thanks

  Problem With Leaders

Author: Knowlege Is Powder

Yes im still alive even though I've not contributed much on UKRS lately but
I have been watching

I'm not sure if I have ever brought this up in UKRS but we have for quite
some time now had a leader who hasn't directly been causing a problem but is
one that I'm never sure what to do about.

He has been in the Group for quite some time now and has never really made
much effort to do anything and that includes running activities and things
but has generally always been there.

He has never done any training (he might of done initial / introductory
years ago) and getting him to do it is a major problem, we keep trying, the
GSL and DC to sort something but nothing ever happens.

In some respects you just have to ignore him because your priority is on the
Scouts having a good time and you cant be wasting time with leaders like
this and hence have merely seen him as someone there just to make up the
ratio number etc and probably little more else but it has got more
irritating recently when we have started to get the scouts to be more
independent and go on hikes etc in patrols with remote supervised leaders
etc and all he wants to do is be with the Scouts, the impression i get is
that all he wants to do is be a "Grown up Scout"

  Thoughts & Thanks

While some of you may have met my dad most of you would not recognise
his name, but many of you will know him. He's Dave Gorman and he's the
group scout leader at Barnston in the Wirral.

You may like to know that dad's gone into Broadgreen cardiothoracic
hospital in Liverpool today for a major exploratory heart operation
for an extremely rare condition. I know the thoughts of a lot of
leader friends will be with him.

I would just like to say thanks for the many kind thoughts and best
wishes we have received.

Dad will be back scouting very soon.
