Welcome to uk.rec.scouting (URS), the newsgroup for discussion of all aspects
of UK Scouting and Guiding for boys, girls, Leaders, and anyone else with an
active interest in promoting the Scouting and Guiding ideals.
This newsgroup, by charter and in spite of its name, is open for the discussion
of both Guiding and Scouting, centred on the UK. It covers programme activities,
administration, equipment, etc. and is used to solicit advice and opinion from
other members on what to do in certain situations. It is also used to generally
seek and provide support and encouragement with respect to Scouting and Guiding
in the UK and its associated dependencies.
Therefore... "The Scout and Guide Laws are the Laws of this Newsgroup." Please
post within the spirit of the Laws and the Spirit of Scouting and Guiding.

Sorry, but I felt i could'nt let this comment get burried in another
posting:
"Then God help the younger Y.P. in the section's. Having spent a large
part of last night in A&E with my son who was invested into Explorers,
then assaulted by several older Explorers when out of sight of the
'Leadership team' I'm under no illusions about how badly it will end.
Bxxxxx "
People have already expressed their support/sympathy with the lad and his
dad. But I have to say that in my experience there is no smoke without fire.
These 'Explorers' will probably say they did it because, 'It was done to
them'. The bullying is probably endemic in the Unit, nothing of the 'caring
family of scouting' has ever reached them, and i can't beleive the Leaders
are not totally unaware of it, possibly colluding.
In my fairy tale world of scouting all of this 'initiation bullying' died
out years ago, sadly not.

I am looking for an "inter patrol" challenge for our District Patrol
Camp in May. This has in the past been a serious of game type team
challenges, pitch a tent upside down, blind trail etc, more recently
it was a Sedan chair build and race
We would now like something different, so if there are any ideas out
there I would be grateful
The time slot can be around 2 hours, and could either be a single
item
as the sedan chair race was or a multiple set of bases
We have a seperate slot for such things as firelighting, and the
basic
skills contained in Outdoor and Outdoor Plus
Any suggestions gratefully received
Thanks
