Just kicking round some thoughts for next years camp. We will probably be
heading to Holland to visit our linked Dutch Sea scout group. Thinking about
some options for stopping off for 24 hours somewhere either on the way or on
the return. Our normal route is over to Calais and then across Belgium to
the Dutch border.

Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions?

cheers
Rich

Don't have your e-mail address.

My advice - Don't put it back on now that you have taken it off.

  Fire Toys

So, we have the fire Poi, the Fire Staff and a Fire diabolo and a
varied level of skill.

I HAD to spend some ES money. They COULD have used it to fund a
weekend away but I suggested that they spend it on something that is
less ethereal.

So they decided to add to the Firetoys....

We now have fire swinging clubs (I decided they couldn't get fire
juggling clubs till they could juggle properly - and the fire devil
Sticks are just a tad risky as no-one can control the sticks yet)

And they bought a Hoopla Hoop - one with little screw in pins with
fire wicks on them!

And a walking ball - which is probably the most dangerous item so far.

And to make things more circus like they added a Bullwhip - they
wanted a Fire Whip but I baulked at the idea as if it went wrong the
consequences would be too awful to consider.

The gear arrived yesterday and I have discovered how difficult it is
to crack a whip accurately, every time. The welts on my back from
getting it wrong have confirmed my decision against the Fire Whip!

  Taking Scouts to the continent.

I am in the middle of planning a family canoe holiday to Algonquin, Canada
and thought, "Why not take the troop there in 2009?" The idea is only a
week old, have made preliminary enquireries and am thinking that before i
call an impromptu meeting of leaders & parents to make some decision as the
pheasability, I ought to have a second string in my bow. To be honest we
don't have a very robust committee at present and as GSL and SL this will
need some organising and 'driving' of it's own. Secondly we have not
fund-raised for anything for nearly 10 years as we rely entirely on grants
and subs. 2 weeks in Canada will be hugely expensive.
I wonder if anyone has experience of taking a scout section to somewhere on
the continent to fulfill the similar aims:
1. To experience a 'wilderness...
