I'm back! Friday's night hike was splendid if damp; 16 out of 21
Scouts turned out (we had 3 for the District gala). We took the Tube
from Leytonstone to Loughton and hiked back without leaving Epping
Forest (our church hall is adjascent to a particularly scruffy
fragment of the ancient woodland), about 12km in all. Got to the hall
at 2:30, all asleep by 5am, woken at 7 by a Leader who had volunteered
to cook breakfast and arrived an hour early.

Anyhow, the "Hammond for Chief" group now has 2061 members (2010 on
Friday). Personally, as long as we don't get any more dour headmasters
or modern major generals, I'm not too fussed.

  PL's Night

Author: Ash
Date: Dec 3, 2007 02:36

Once in a while we let the PL's run the night. Our newly promoted Patrol
Leaders were eager to give this a go, so they prepared a Programme and ran
with it last Friday.

What a boring evening. The five Leaders had nothing to do all night, other
than making sure one of us was in the hall keeping an eye on things and
getting a bit of gear out when requested, we spent the night twiddling our
thumbs in the kitchen.

The PL's ran everything from start to finish, flag break and inspection, a
game, pioneering activity, cans, Map Symbol Quiz and a couple of games to
finish before flag down.

The Scouts must have been impressed too as they have them a round of
applause at the end of the night.
