  Weekend afternoons

Author: Manky Badger

We've just had our annual district Carol Service and Xmas bunfight.
I thought it was excellent.
A short, brisk, happy service by a vicar who has the cubs and beavers
attention right from the off.
A party tea.
A magician who had the kids (and me) in stitches.
The cubs and beavers loved it, and were full of excitement at home time, all
competing to tell parents, brothers and sisters all about it. But.....

We (our pack) had only five cubs turn up out of a possible thirty six. I
think it's fair to say that other groups had simular poor turn outs.

Our pack is (was) planning a party on Saturday afternoon in two weeks time
to celebrate 90 years of cubbing. Now I'm wondering if we should bother.
Running a district event expecting 300+ and getting 75-ish is one thing.
Running a pack event expecting 36 and getting 5 is entirely another.

Er....what do you think?

Can you see mail getting through to: gooders@anti.spam?

In my defence? Maybe you should mail them and ask them your question.

Crikey! You're not suggesting there are two of me out there?

  Sections camping seperately?

Author: Jim
Date: Dec 3, 2006 09:27

Please can someone confirm or dispel this "rule"!

At a District meeting last week, where we were discussing our
celebration camp, one of the ADC's was adamant that it was written "in
the rules" that sections cannot camp together, having to have their
own separate camping areas - e.g. Cubs and Scouts could not have their
tents in a single circle, they would have to be physically on
different camping areas, with their own facilities etc.

I'm very skeptical of the "rule" as this is the first I've ever heard
of it and cannot find anything that even touches on the subject.

Is it correct or just a UM/Local rule they are peddling for some
reason?

Jim

Did you mail me off list?

If it wasn't you, then someone did (in your defence) and I'd like to thank
them for their considered and reasonable comments.

Please can someone identify this badge

Our group has been lent a cloth badge to use in 2007.

It's about 5cms (2 inches) diameter, white with a red rose and
small gold fleur-de-lys in the centre. At the top it has B-P, at
the bottom 1957 and on the sides 1857 and 1907.

It has a small loop attached to it so it doesn't look like a
sew-on-badge but rather one to be attached to a lapel or button.

Thanks for any help.

  A 'Good News' Day

Author: Gooders
Date: Dec 3, 2006 01:19

Yesterday was a good day for Oswestry Scout Group.

In the morning we took part in the town Christmas Parade and won best youth
float. (So we'll be tapping the Rotary Club for a donation next year :-)).

Then, in the evening, we won the District Scout Swimming Gala. Despite only
four Scouts being available we won 4 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze and the
overall trophy.

Yep, yesterday was a good day and I am so proud of our Cubs and Scouts who
put so much effort in.
