  The Deck of Cards

With apologies to T. Texas Tyler, the original artist. Some
interpretations are a bit "weak", please feel free to interject with any
other suggestions!

During their Troop Summer Camp, a Patrol of Scouts had been on a long
hike. They arrived in a little camp site called Gilwell. The next
morning being Sunday, the Patrol held a Scouts’ Own. A Leader led the
Scouts in contemplation.

After the Leader read a thought for the day, the Promise was taken up
next. Those of the Scouts that had a progress book took them out. One
Scout had only a deck of cards, and he spread them out. The Leader saw
the cards and said, "Scout, put away those cards." After the service was
over, the Scout was taken aside and brought before the Warden of Gilwell.

The Warden said, "Skip, why have you brought this Scout here?"

"For playing cards at Scouts’ Own, Warden," was the response.

The Warden asked the Scout, "And what have you to say for yourself, child?"

"Much, Sir," replied the Scout.

The Warden stated, "I hope so, for if not I will punish you more than
any Scout was ever punished."
