Changes to my fotopic site - advance warning

Author: Mike Hughes
Date: Sep 5, 2008 00:32

A message to all those who've been following my fotopic postings

As I've now got more that 150 photos on the South Shore part of my
fotopic site and over 120 on the 'real' trains part of the site I
realise that it is getting a bit more difficult for people to find
specific items of interest to them.

Therefore I will shortly be adding new collections and moving some of
the existing photos over to these new collections as and when I find out
exactly how to do it (I think I've got it sorted but I have to be
certain that I've got it right before I go too far).

Two examples of the kind of collections I hope to create are photos I've
taken of Charlie Fox-Wilson's Broke Brick Mountain and Cliff South's
Ashley Danville and Deanstown layouts. It should also make it easier if
anyone wants to link to a specific 'theme'.

This should take place by Tuesday or Wednesday next week but in the
meantime this is your chance to view the whole of the gallery at

How do I make my Ukrainian model go like a train?

Author: Arthur Figgis

I've just acquired a model of a Soviet railcar, and reckon it might be
fun to try to motorise it so I can chase any 4 mm scale capitalist
running dogs off the motherland of the layout:
http://military.scale-model-kits.com/products/Armored-self-propelled-Leningrad-railroad...

For practical reasons I can live with using 16.5 mm track to represent
1520 mm gauge in 1:72 scale, but has anyone any suggestions for a
suitable motor bogie to use? It needs 4 wheels, but also to be small and
*cheap*. I once used a tram motor bogie in a model, but I understand
they are out of production now.

I'm thinking of seeing what can be done with a Bachmann "Gandy dancer",
if I can procure one, but anyone know of any other options? Black
Beetles are bit expensive for something which will hardly ever be run.

Small updates completed to the Goods And Not So Goods website (N Gauge

Still having trouble accessing newsgroups via TalkTalk so only look in
about once a month on dial-up. If anyone needs to contact me please use
the link on the site.

I'm sure I saw somewhere a list of the makeup of a post-war Flying
Scotsman. Anyone know where it is?

  Train sets...

Author: Just zis Guy, you know?

Definitely a train set not a model railway. Here are some
in-progress pics taken in the last couple of days:
<http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk/wiki/Railway/In_progress>

Hopefully you can see the size of the thing and also gauge roughly
how its intended to work. Some fiddling and fettling of lines is
still needed, one or two have been knocked out of straight while
doing other jobs, but they seem to fiddle back OK.

Today I've been doing the section from the end of the trundleduct
distant from the station, and taking the concealed back straight
round to meet the trundleduct; it will go behind a backscene that is
mounted on the trundleduct.

I am beginning to feel it might one day be finished (or at least
playable). It's a way off yet, but do people usually have a "golden
track pin" ceremony?
