  Making Your Own RIgs

Author: Paul

Hi, I make my own Rigs to the designs shown in Sea Angler magazine and
in the Sea Angler book on Rigs and Bait Presentation.

Does anyone else on here make their own rigs? Anyone got any new
simple designs I might try this year? I use up a lot of Pulley Rigs
while Beach Casting.

I was thinking of making simpler rigs and thus using less materials
and doing my bit to save the planet, anyone got any views on what we
could do as our contribution to recycling etc?

I have been making my own lead weights, using moulds and lead melted
down from old tyre weights. I got enough lead tyre weights to make me
weights for the rest of my fishing days but i think lead weights might
be banned in the next year or so. If I put in a few old nuts and
washers in my moulds to use much less lead is it going to have much of
an impact on my weights? Anyone got an acceptable green weight making
solution for me?

What was this fish? Gulf of mexico, buttom of an oil rig, very VERY big.

Hi

I was telling a (true) story the other day about this MONSTER of a
fish we caught
in The Gulf of Mexico from an oil rig. And the problem is I cant
remember what
species of fish it was - can any of you guys help?

Well, for the hell of it, here's the story:

It was back in the summer of 1980, and during my university vacation I
managed to blag a job as a "roustabout" on an oil rig. It was one of
the largest production platforms in The Gulf and about 100 miles off
the coast of Louisiana.

Anyhow, towards the end of my first week, I discovered that the
foreman was new on the rig too. Well, we used to work a 12 hour shift
- 6AM to 6PM and after work, some of the lads used to fish. This was
something of an operation from 90 ft up... and not really approved of
by the powers that be... - but still possible provided nothing much
else was going on (and a bit of a blind eye was turned).
