As well as the other explanations, bear in mind that you don't pee much
while doing vigorous exercise in a hot place...

cycling on the wrong side of the road

Author:

Out doing various errands this morning. Driving (so shoot me...) today as
large mileage to do in short space of time. I'm driving along one of the
lanes near me, on the way to doc's to get Mr Wafflycat's prescriptions & the
dispensary closes early today. Up in front, two teenage girls on bikes,
heading in the same direction as me - but cycling on the wrong side of the
road. *AAARRGGH!* So I slowed down as I approached them, wound window down &
called out "Girls, you are cycling on the wrong side of the road and that is
highly dangerous" as I passed them. Cue girls stopping, getting off bikes &
standing in grass at verge.. Bloody good job they did, as just then a large
HGV came round the right-hand bend just in front. After picking up other
half's prescription, I retraced my journey...

Do mountain bikes with road tyres exist?

Author: thagor2008

Hi

I'm thinking of buying a new bike and I want a comfy mountain bike ,
not some flimsy racer with a seat that chops my nuts in half. Only
problem is that all mountain bikes seem to come with knobbly "off
road" tyres. Is it possible to buy a mountain bike or even just
replacement tyres that have a smoother road profile for easier
pedalling?

Cheers

  "Re-gearing" Sturmey-Archer hubs

Author: Colin Reed

Does anyone know if it is possible (or even advisable!) to change the
gearing on a 3 speed sturmey archer hub? I have an old Hercules Balmoral,
picked up off eBay for a bargain price, for my GF that has a replacement hub
(1991 is the date on it). It works fine, but all the gears seem rather high
for this type of bike, so I wondered if it was possible to lower them at
all. I actually picked up a reconditioned "spare" 3 speed hub too, although
I've never changed a hub on a wheel before, so that could be a bit
challenging too. I'd love to have a go - after all, you never find out how
to do these things unless you try.

Thanks

Colin

So where is the mass media hysteria?

Remember the vitriolic hype in the mass media regarding the recent sad case
of the pedestrian killed by a cyclist?

See

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/7518730.stm

So where is the mass media in whipping up nationwide vitriol against
drivers? Oh, I forgot, it's just cyclists that are the scum of the road,
it's okay to make sweeping accusations against cycling & cyclists :rolls
eyes: For me, this case shows just how much anti-cyclist bias/vitriol there
is in reporting incidents regarding cycling & cyclists. That's not excusing
bad cycling, it's just an observation about how different road users are
reported upon. There's good & bad road users using all forms of transport,
but the way the media reports it, it's okay to vilify cyclists. :rolls eyes:

A bike!!! Wow cool. I won a book token once, how well do you have to do
to win a bike?

I was invited to attend my daughter's school assembly today but not told
why. They were having the end of term prizegiving and Small has won a
bike: she's chuffed to bits. I felt a little guilty (we gave her a bike
for Christmas) but I hope we can arrange for this one to be kept at her
grandparents house.

Cheers,
Luke
