I suspect it does. You'd have to open the garage door and drive your car
inside. A sensible precaution if you're going to SORN it. I had a car
inside the garage and SORNed it each year for 10 years. It was recently
sold and the buyer enthused about the condition. If I had left it on the
drive for ten years it would have been scrap.

OK, Foillow up question(s)...

Is it the point of contact with the ground or the overhang that counts? I
suspect the overhang.

How much do you have to dismantle it before it is no longer a car and
becomes a heap of scrap metal, thus leaving you with only a potential
charge of littering rather than a SORN violation?

I really do not know, but I would suspect it has more to do with the
paperwork the DVLA recive that the actual state of the car.

Interesting idea. All that entails is ticking the 'scrapped' box and
sending the form in... and they explicitly talk about breaking it
yourself as an option.

Can I help it if the complete-looking car on my drive just hasn't had a
customer for any major components yet?
