Since reading something here (or on a sister newsgroup) I have been
considering/contemplating the purchase of a 2000 (or earlier) landrover
defender, and I like the look and versatility of the long wheelbase 110
version with side windows, (maybe an 11 or 12 seater). I was thinking of
kitting it out with a small camper stove and fridge set up, to accompany my
liking for camping. it does seem odd that no one seems to turn these into
small go anywhere campers (or do they??).
well anyhows, as I have 9 months left to run on my lease, I am in no hurry,
so wanted to ask what its like to run a landrover as opposed to a "normal"
car. are they expensive to run? (oddly I cant find fuel consumption
figures for anything but new ones (and they are a little uneconomical for my
tastes.)).
so as a only vehicle, would a landrover be a good or bad bet. I know the
"subframe" rusts badly, if not kept waxoyled etc, but I read someone say you
can buy a new galvanised frame for
