It depends what it fails on - there's a list of things which qualify for
a partial re-test. If it's not something on that, then the tester can
charge you full whack for a re-test. He can, of course, choose not to.

Very likely, yes. In practice (whisper it if there's somebody from VOSA
around) the car'll head back with a pass cert and a "Get this fixed" word
in the ear.

Nissan Patrol -what to watch out for?

Author: prospective patrol
Date: Sep 20, 2008 09:56

I'd really appreciate some advice about an 05 Patrol Auto that i'm thinking
of buying.

In particular, points to look for, known faults, that sort of thing.

It's from a car supermarket, one owner 25,000 miles - but no recorded
service stamps in the book. The seller will supply a warranty - but it's
going to be a third party job, and I'm not sure how comprehensive/reputable
it would be.

I'm especially concerned about the known engine problems with the
Navara/Pathfinder - I know it's a different lump in the Patrol, but it also
might have a lot of suspect DNA with it's trouleseome brothers ;)

Anyway, your input will be glady received.

TIA

Saga of the Knocking Fiesta - Part V (The Final Curtain ... )

Well, never let it be said by anyone that if nothing else, I am not at least
honest. All of the good people on here who had their doubts as to whether a
re-shelling of the big ends was going to get it a few more month's life,
were right. It hasn't lasted and is back knocking again. Still, at least it
only cost me a few quid to find out. I really don't think that it is worth
messing about replacing the engine with an 'unknown' from a scrapper, so I
think it's time to retire it. Anyone want a Fester with a knackered bottom
end ... ?

  BMW exhausts.

Seeing the recent post about a Sierra exhaust got me thinking.
Are BMW exhausts particularly long lasting? It certainly seems
that way.
I have a '94 525i E34 with a full service history. 160k and
according to the service sheets and bills, it's never had any
part of the exhaust system replaced.

I would be grateful if anybody would share their experiences of Mr. Clutch,
good or bad. My stepson put his Audi A6 in for a replacement clutch, having

Does anybody know any company in UK (London area) that can make one-
off
parts, I am looking for someone to make a couple of pulleys - water
pump,
maybe supercharger and crank shaft - to specification.

  Sierra Exhaust

Anyone got an idea what a fair price would be for a Sierra exhaust? Full
pipe, without manifold fitted. Mine failed MOT because a small hole in
center silence.

Sierra 1990 1.8LX Saloon.

Hi, I know there are a few MOT tester guys on here and wanted to run this by
you. A guy on a forum I use says our vans (old VW LT35 (3500kgs) would be
off the road straight away if it failed an MOT. IE, not got until the
existing MOT expires (with the caveat of course that its not failed on
something serious or advisory not to drive etc).

I've never heard this before.

  Overflowing petrol filler pipe... how?

Author: Mathew Newton
Date: Sep 18, 2008 11:57

[Sorry if you get this, or similar, twice - I one earlier and I think
it failed - that'll teach me to use Google Groups!]

I got a call from my neighbour today advising me that my girlfriends
car (Mk IV Fiesta, 1.25L petrol) was leaking petrol... from the filler
cap.

I couldn't get my head around how this could be, not unless she'd
filled it right to the brim (it had been filled only at the weekend)
and perhaps today's sunshine had increased the pressure such that it
was now overflowing (to the tune of a drip every few seconds). But
then it would really take some doing to fill it that much... right?

So, when I got home I removed the filler cap and indeed found the
petrol level to be right at the top... I wondered if the camber of the
road had anything to do with it so replaced the cap and drove to a
flat spot. When I got there I checked again and the level had dropped
(completely out of sight in fact) and so I returned to the original
parking position... and the petrol was still nowhere to be seen.
