  Porch Awning

Author: Capt T
Date: Sep 1, 2008 15:11

used our sunnfair scenic plus porch awning for the first time over the
weekend. one of the fibreglass pole type that form a curved surface. Nylon
type material etc.No groundsheet.
What surprised us was the amount of condensation clinging to the inside of
the roof section in the morning. We left it closed up in case of more rain,
went to bed (it was dry at that point) but in the morning wet wet wet. Is
that the norm for these? Trapped warm air condeses as the temp outside
drops?? Any tips ideas?
Thanks

  CRV as Towcar.

Author: Capt T
Date: Sep 1, 2008 13:31

I tow a bailey 450/2 something like 1086K loaded. I am considering a03/04
diesel CRV with the 2.2 engine.
Any experience of these cars please? Some say they are a bit light but the
figs seem to work out. What soer of mpg solo towing might I expect. I also
need it for Kent /Coventry solo runs at week ends - relaxing to drive??
TIA

  wheel clamps on site

we have just returned from a week away at the Four site at Henley On Thames.
While walking around like we all do it was very obvious that at least 80%% of
the units did not have there wheel clamps in place. If the caravan is left
unattended then you have to fit the clamp to make the insurance null and
void, I know the caravan club say that you can leave the caravan for 8 hours
then you have to fit the clamp.
Does this mean that most of the vans on site have no insurance.

Wiring of European plugs - live/neutral??

Author: Lobster
Date: Aug 30, 2008 08:48

I'm in the middle of wiring up a cable for an electrical hook up to be
used while camping in France. I have a French 3-pin plug bought there
on a previous visit, but in opening it up I find there's absolutely no
indication which of the two power pins is live and neutral. Doesn't it
matter?

I will be using the cable with an RCD device; won't that object and trip
out if the wiring's the wrong way round? Or is it a case of "suck it
and see" when I get to France, and if it's wrong, reverse the wiring?

Thanks
David

  OT: Tyre pressures

Author:
Date: Aug 28, 2008 08:16

Having recently purchased a new (S/H) car, I was checking tyre pressures and
found them to be over the manufacturers recommended pressure by some 10lbs
or so.
I checked on some tyre sites and saw their recommendation that they should
be adjusted when "cold" ?!! what does that mean I thought and after a chat
with friends some thought 15degC others 20degC.

To cap it all the michelin site says: "They must be checked when the tyre
is cold (By cold we mean the ambient outside temperature where the tyre is
to be used)."
I hope to drive to Spain in the near future and I'm almost certain that the
air temperature can vary by about 25deg through the day.

Any thoughts?

  Black streaks on awning

Author: R A
Date: Aug 28, 2008 00:57

Good Morning

Could anyone advise how to clean black streaks from our dorema awning, the
van has been on a permanent pitch all summer well alleged summer, I have
done some searching and the main answers from the manufacture's is you
don't, I appreciate it would need reproofing after but it's what to use to
get them of, getting them of the van itself only appears to work using
polish.

Regards

  Replacing weight plate

Author: Greg
Date: Aug 27, 2008 11:27

Slightly off topic but I'm sure someone hear can help, I need to know
the legal situation about replacing the rating plate on a trailer, any
links to actual legislation would be particularly welcome.

I've just bought a Lynton exhibition trailer rated at 2000kg gross
which is fine for the Land Rover but I would like to drop the rating
to 1500kg so I can also tow it with the car, I have no intention of
loading it heavily so it's entirely a matter of keeping the boys in
blue off my back.

I've tried Lynton but they are not interested as I didn't buy it
directly from them, very helpfull I don't think but that seems to be
the norm for specialist trailer manufacturers as I've had similar
tales from others.

While I'm asking, does anyone know how on earth the boys in blue
justify nicking people for towing a trailer that actually weighs about
600kG with a car rated at 1500kg just because a plate says it COULD be
loaded higher than the car?, it's like nicking anyone who has a car
that COULD go faster than the speed limit!.
