Recording Radio Programs & time shift

Author: alan ralph
Date: Aug 31, 2008 16:07

Hi All,

There are quite a number of radio programs which I would like to record, to
hear at a different date/time. At the present time my NTL/Virgin + box will
not record radio programs, so is there anything on the market which will
perform in a similar way ? I believe you can do this with Sky+, but what may
be of interest is the freesat PVR's when they appear ?

I notice some of the Ipod type units have built in DAB and can record, but
do they have a date/time/station function ?

I would like to playback the recording through the hifi so looking to record
at a similar quality to Radio 3 and Classic FM via DAB.

Your thoughts please ?

Regards

Alan

LS Cables - Transmission Line vs Lumped Element

Author: Jim Lesurf
Date: Aug 30, 2008 09:25

A while ago there was some discussion about loudspeaker cables and the
relative merits of analysis using the transmission line and AC lumped
element approachs. I've now done a page on this which people may find
interesting. It is at

http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~www_pa/Scots_Guide/audio/shortstring/howlong.html

Note that I decided to put this on the Scots Guide not AudioMisc. This is
because the page shows a fair bit of 'hard sums' - i.e. the algebra for the
two approaches. However even if hard sums make your head ache, the results
may be of interest. :-)

Slainte,

Jim

4-pin DIN was used by Quad and Naim some years ago, and I think some B&O.
Could be an adaptor to use between one of these and any other manufacturer's
kit.

Naim did indeed use 4 pin connectors on their early gear and IIRC it was
ring locking DIN - which would also mate with ordinary DIN plugs. There's
a third type with a latch - similar to XLRs. But I'm pretty certain it was
the same as Quad - stereo - on the one I remember which was an NAP 250. Of
course they may have used the same connector on their later mono amps.
Naim never did use logic. ;-)

I heard a rumor your nipples are pierced and you can dangle a full-sized
pineapple from each one. Quite impressive, Poofie.
