Living near Hartlepool, being mean and preferring Mk3s is Grand Central
reliable at present?

I'm also keen to support the underdog...

First Great Western will accept Oyster Pay As You Go at all stations
between Paddington and West Drayton or Greenford from the 21st
September, according to a leaflet I picked up at Ealing Broadway
yesterday. The fares and peak periods will be the same as for the
tube.

Our love affair with the train (BBC Radio 4 this evening)

Author: Stephen Furley
Date: Sep 19, 2008 13:48

'A Point of View', 20:50-21:00 Radio 4 this evening featured Lisa
Jardine contrasting travel by train with other methods. Somewhat off-
topic for both of these groups as she speaks mainly of her experiences
in Holland, but may be of interest. A transcript, and audio stream
are available here:

  Timetable Supplements ?

Author:
Date: Sep 19, 2008 13:34

The printed NRTT contained weekend times only until September for Table 65
(WCML) & some other tables.
The on-line pdf version (National Rail site) still has this same version of
Table 65, whilst the only "update" file available seems to be a June
Supplement, which also contains nothing for the September - December weekend
services for Table 65.

Has anyone located any on-line versions which include these "missing"
weekend services for September to December ?

  Avantix codes for U12 etc

Author: Roland Perry

I looked for a (single) fare from Gatwick to Waterloo East, and Avantix
he say £11.10 [not Gatex].

Having arrived at Gatwick there was an impressively confusing screen on
the ticket machine, and that's without the added complication of wanting
a single (machines in general seem highly biassed towards returns).

There were a couple of red-uniformed ladies (somewhat reminiscent of
Virgin, but probably Gatex) wandering around trying to help people use
the machines [1] so I said "I need a single to Waterloo East", and she
tapped out "Waterloo East" [2] very deliberately one character at a time
with an outstretched index finger, as if I was too stupid to spell it,
but we seemed not to get what I needed after all that. She then tapped
some other keys a bit too fast for me to follow and I ended up with a
£11.90 "Anytime single" "FCC only" from Gatwick to U12*

As the train was fast approaching and the price seemed close enough, I
accepted it.

1) I can't get the Avantix CD to show me fares to any "London Zones",
despite it having an impressive collection of things that look almost
right. This is probably operator error, so what's the code I want?
