Special Event Station
Members of UKRA will activate the special event station GB5ST from April
31st for 3 days

Activity will be on all bands 160-10 meters and as well as 2 meters.

The group's challenge is to contact as many stations worldwide who have
stubbed their toes in the last 5 years during their 3 day event. So if you
have or know of someone who has stubbed their toe in the last 5 years call
them. QSL via RSCB.

Flying to the US via Heathrow?

Author:

The following very slightly edited posting appeared on uk.legal
yesterday. This may be of special interest to any Radio Amateurs
travelling to the US via Heathrow - or doubtless any other UK airport.

I leave it to the great legal minds on ukra - such as those who
believe the Assistant Chief Constable of Leicestershire's
pronouncements about carrying knives - to form an opinion on whether
"we frisk the kid with your consent or you don't get to fly" is
coercion or not.

Please, no comments about 'having nothing to hide...'

Yesterday I had the dubious pleasure of flying back to the USA,
through Heathrow for the first time in a long time. It was so
bizarre I actually made notes; I swear to you this is 100%% true. How
did we get to this point? Where did we lose it all? When did we
surrender?

  Is this wise?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vertex-Standard-VXA-710-Airband-Multi-Band-Transceiver_W0Q...

If I tried to buy that from a shop I would get nowhere without a private
pilots licence.

Given the current security issues should Ebay be allowing the sle of these
radios?

All you would have to do would be to tell an aircraft the wrong QNH and
presumably it might land short of the runway?
