Gordon Brown has given Iran an ultimatum: give up your nuclear
programme or face severe sanctions and international isolation.

Mr Brown made the warning as he addressed the Israeli parliament in
the first such speech by a British Prime Minister.

He described Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's threat to wipe
Israel off the map as "abhorrent".

And he promised Iranian intimidation will not go unpunished.

"So to those who question Israel's very right to exist, and threaten
the lives of its citizens through terror, we say: the people of Israel
have a right to live here, to live freely and to live in security," he
told Israeli MPs.

On the final day of his first visit to Jerusalem as Prime Minister Mr
Brown also pledged to "stand beside" Israel through thick and thin.

Mr Brown told the Israeli Parliament that peace with the Palestinians
was "within your grasp".

His warm words for Israel follow a clash with Prime Minister Ehud
Olmert yesterday over his people's settlements in Palestinian
territories.
