Fatality of 50%% / iron overload

Medical News Article on Microbiology

Research from University of North Carolina provides new data about
microbiology

2007 JAN 10 -- Current study results from the report, "Capsular
polysaccharide phase variation in Vibrio vulnificus," have been
published. According to recent research from the United States,
"Commonly found in raw oysters, Vibrio vulnificus poses a serious
health threat to immunocompromised individuals and those with serum
iron overload, with a fatality rate of approximately 50%%. An essential
virulence factor is its capsular polysaccharide (CPS), which is
responsible for a significant increase in virulence compared to
nonencapsulated strains."

New data on type 2 diabetes and serum ferritin

Investigators at Kochi University release new data on type 2 diabetes

2007 JAN 15 -- Scientists discuss in "Association between serum
ferritin and circulating oxidized low-density lipoprotein levels in
patients with type 2 diabetes" new findings in type 2 diabetes.
According to recent research published in the Endocrine Journal, "The
oxidative modification of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) plays a
central role in the initiation and acceleration of atherosclerosis.
Iron plays a part in the formation of highly toxic free radicals such
as hydroxide and superoxide anions, which can induce lipid
peroxidation."

circulating oxidized LDL (oxLDL) levels in type 2 ... serum ferritin is

Iron-rich foods raise heart risks for diabetics

At what 'point' .. DOES .. the food BECOME .. "iron-rich" .. ?

When one has a piece of lightly battered chicken or fish corpse .. does
IT .. now .. have INCREASED .. iron .. 'richness' .. because OF the
enriched / iron fortified flour consumed AT .. the same time .. AS this
'minimally heme iron containing cadaver' .. ?

It is known heme iron / blood .. ENHANCES .. absorption .. OF .. 'other
iron' .

Iron
Heme vs. non-heme: Absorption of heme iron is about 10x that of
non-heme iron ... Vitamin A enhances iron absorption and prevents the
inhibition of iron ...

Hey, maybe that IS his whole problem: too much uric acid! Something
has to explain his cognitive impairment, compulsions, and delusions of
grandeur. And here we thought he was just plain old nuts.

Bob

A quick check of
http://www.pubmed.gov

searching on "lupus gamma interferon"

reveals that INCREASED Gamma Interferon level is associated with the
"pathogenesis" of Lupus.

I would therefore avoid Grape SEED extracts if I had Lupus. Grape skin
extracts seems to have the opposite effects.

You would need to do some more research on this in PubMed and talk it over
with a "Lupus" doctor before deciding to take lots of grape skin extract.
The many supplements that reduce inflammation could also help. A low
"saturated fat" diet also lowers Gamma
Interferon levels. A high "saturated fat" meal will certainly raise it.
