Hi all,
I'm a newcomer to the group.
I've been reading about the benefits of Fenugreek seeds and Cinnamon with regard to diabetes, and wondered if anyone had any information to share on the matter. How large a daily dose for instance, and the effect upon insulin required?
TIA
Dave

How bizarre.
None of the readings you have given are beyond the normal whole blood range
for a non diabetic which is a figure between 4 and around 7. Under 8 is
apparently acceptable but we are suppose to aim a bit lower. Whether plasma
and whole blood is different i have no idea, but a reading of 6.2 in whole
blood would be fine and even 7.0 is not a problem.
Occasionally I get to test a non diabetic and the readings are usually from
about 5 to 6 as you might expect.
Your readings (given whole blood and plasma are similar) are certainly not
indicative of diabetes where one expects a random test of 14 mmols/l before
a diagnosis is made. Whether the drugs can cause a small increase in blood
sugar i have no idea, but even so that doesn't indicate diabetes. Diabetes
is a condition where either the pancreas releases no insulin (type 1) or the
body is so resistant to insulin that blood sugars rise - and there are
associated conditions as well(type 2). If you have a drug that affects
blood sugar then you are still not diabetic...

I don't think it is as important as we are lead to believe Tom. Cold insulin
hurts like crap on injection mostly so i don't refrigerate mine unless i
have loads (over 4 weeks worth). I wouldn't store it in the sun for any
long period but as long as it is kept within the generous heat range on the
box it is fine.
The pharmacist knows how to look after it..

Most meters are not switchable. I believe the one touch ultra (check first)
can switch but its not rocket science anyway.. 1mmol/l = 18 mg/dl. In the
UK we only use mmols/l and any health professional will work to these units
as well.
Incidently, I have had dealings with Accu-Chek and they may be happy to send
another Aviva that reads in mg/dl, as they produce them for some European
countries. Ask them, they may charge a few quid but they are only about £15
new anyway. Customer services with these companies tend to be pretty good.
Mart.
