Though millions take Enbrel, Humira, Remicade, mechanism behind medications was

FRIDAY, Jan. 25 (HealthDay News) -- Certain drugs used to treat
rheumatoid arthritis (RA) provide a powerful, previously unknown,
benefit for the immune system, say University of Rochester Medical
Center researchers. copyright healthnav.com

They found that drugs known as anti-TNF compounds -- including Enbrel,
Humira and Remicade -- help reduce the activity of abnormal B cells
that play a role in autoimmune diseases such as RA and lupus. TNF is a
chemical messenger that fires up the immune system. Anti-TNF drugs
inhibit TNF.

The findings, published in the Jan. 15 issue of The Journal of
Immunology, suggest that these drugs improve the health of patients in
a way that hadn't been recognized, the researchers said.

"The most important considerations for any drug are: Is it safe, and
does it work? The answer is certainly 'yes' to both questions for
these anti-TNF compounds. The drugs have revolutionized the treatment

interesting, that. the alkaloid is secreted in the leaves, so perhaps
you oughtn't to eat the fruit. mind you, the article doesn't seem
quite so paranoid as the man with the iron b*m, who's been posting
again, i see.

i have never noticed that i feel worse after eating tomatoes, potatoes,
peppers or aubergines ... and i'm married to a vegetarian, so those
things tend to feature quite strongly in my diet.

listed symptoms of solanine poisoning don't seem to include any
muscular/skeletal effects. and of course, you're far more likely to
ingest solanine from a potato than from *any* of the other solanaceae,
so why pick on tomatoes?

I came across this web site whilst browsing the web. It might be of
interest to those amongst us with RA.

Hasn't it been a terrible summer this year. Today in Cornwall it's
raining like Noah wants to float his boat.
