  New phone

Author: AlanG
Date: Dec 23, 2006 06:00

Our South Western Bell cordless phone has started acting up. It's
about 20 years old so maybe time for something new. Anyone out there
with recommendations for a hearing aid compatible cordless phone?

The only one I have found on the net is a BT freestyle 6100 but there
are comments on the amazon site saying it causes interference when
used with the T setting.

Requirements:
Hearing aid compatible
Cordless
Wall mounted

Wtd: FreeView box with easy-toggle subtitles

Author: Andy Mabbett
Date: Dec 8, 2006 16:00

I want to buy a FreeView box for someone who is hard-of-hearing, they
use subtitles often, but not always (they find them distracting on live
programmes, for instance, where they're often delayed). To switch
subtitles on and off with their current box, they have to enter the
setup menu and navigate several options. This obviously interrupts their
viewing.

Is there a box on the market, where the subtitles can be toggled on and
of via a single button on the handset?

Re: Textphone -- or TTY/TDD -- Access Numbers in Holland and Switzerland?

I'll just reply to this one e-group (uk.people.deaf) and not the
other crossposted groups.

If you really want to test a TDD number, then simply ring these
countries' national relay service numbers!!

In Switzerland, the relay service (in all 3 languages, Swiss-German;
Swiss-French and Swiss-Italian) is provided by Procom. You can
look them up on www.procom.ch

In any case, I contacted Procom a few days ago on your behalf
as I've lived over there a few years ago hence I'm familar with
Procom and other local TDD numbers there. I asked them about
what protocol they use - and this is their reply:

"the TDD-protokol is EDT, it is part of the V.18 set of protokols.
It is likly the V.21, but 110 Baud, start bit, 7 data and 2 Stop Bits."

Can't help you with the Dutch stuff, but you could websearch for
their 'Dutch relay textphone tdd' and go from there.

It seems to have been sorted in Surlingham too now - thanks.

Steve,

Thanks - they came on again at some point on Friday.

This was terrestrial. There was a signal on 888 - just the 'little green
box' with 888 in it to show that there's no further content.

Chris.
