Hello all posters, lurkers and members of the SFEG.

Does your group have a FAQ?

FAQs are very powerful weapons which will stop trolls, spurious posters,
advertising posters, spammers and other assorted ne-er-do-wells right in
their tracks. The power of the FAQ is not to be underestimated. I will
append to this post a copy of the demon.local FAQ so you can see for
yourself what a mighty weapon it is. Why, once this weapon was given a
regular airing in the all new demon.local it spelled the end of the dl Old
Skool posters who were simply a bunch of bullies out to make trouble over
sill things like sig lengths.

Are you troubled in uls with any unwanted posters? If so, I can heartily
recommend you request an official FAQ from the proper sources and soon your
newsgroup will be just as you like it.

Now, read for yourself the value of a properly constructed FAQ:

Aarrrgh, Eugene, lad, them threads just be me a-tweakin' the nose o' Squire
Follet, him who thought he were the leader of all Surrey just because he be
a founder member o' the SFEG.

His chum Richard wot keeps postin' in support o' Squire Follett be a very
strange man. I calls him Blind Richard - like my old chum Blind Pew from
treasure Island - 'cos Blind Richard *always* used to sign off his posts as
RNIB, Redhill, and even claimed that he worked there. It was most
unfortunate for him that a most observant pirate spotted the fact that the
Redhill place was long gone even when Blind Richard was still claiming his
place there. (Perhaps he be so blind he never knew it was closed and nobody
bothered to tell him? More likely Squire Follett who invented the Blind
Richard of Redhill ID years ago did not have a clue to what was going on in
the real world. Makes you want to have a good ROLF!)

  The Wiremill pub

Author: Dave (Sgt. Pepper)

As it was a beautiful hot sunny day on Tuesday, I took a run out to another
favourite pub from my younger days, the Wiremill just off the main A22 near
Lingfield. It was just as I remembered it.

This pub, being an old mill and built on various levels, is full of olde
worlde charm. The location is delightful too, being right on the edge of a
26 acre lake. Unusually, they open at nine serving an English breakfast
until noon when the full lunchtime menu comes into play. Not the most
exciting menu but all nicely cooked and presented. I settled for a cajun
chicken burger served in a 'rustic' bun with salad and a bowl of potato
wedges ... really delicious but far more than I could manage.

The choice of beers was London Pride, Timothy Taylor's Landlord ale, and
Harveys Sussex ... talk about spoilt for choice.

This pub is mostly about location, and sitting on the back patio on a hot
day with a gentle breeze coming in off the lake, catching the occasional
blue flash of a kingfisher darting by, was pure heaven.

This place has an interesting history ... check it out at their website
http://www.thewiremill.co.uk/Index.html .

As usual, I took loads of photos, some of which I've added to my pubs
gallery http://www.pbase.com/davecq/pubs

  A gloomy outlook apparently

It's certainly coming to something when that old High Street stalwart Marks
& Spencer suffer a fall in shares of more than 20%% and warns of weak sales
and "stormy times ahead". I was so confident that my purchase of a 10p
plastic bag in their Epsom store only last month had secured their financial
future. I think I may now keep it as an historic relic of a lost dynasty.
