Re: Sea Shepherd Announces: Seal Defense Campaign 2008! Sea Shepherd Crew to Shift from the Southern Ice to the Northern Ice

Sea Shepherd Announces:
Seal Defense Campaign 2008!
Sea Shepherd Crew to Shift from the Southern Ice to the Northern Ice

Captain Paul Watson and some of his crew will not rest after defending
whales when they return to Australia after three and a half months of
chasing and harassing Japanese whaling ships, and will instead
continue on to defend baby seals.

Within days of returning to Australia in late March, they will be
flying halfway around the world to Bermuda where Sea Shepherd’s other
ship the Farley Mowat is docked. From there they will head North into
the ice packs off Eastern Canada to defend baby harp seals from the
ruthless clubs of Canadian sealers.

“There is no rest on planetary duty,” said Captain Paul Watson from
onboard the Steve Irwin off the coast of Antarctica. “Half our year is
spent amongst icebergs and on ice floes. Our job is to hunt the
hunters to defend their victims and that takes us from the bottom of
the world to the top and many places in between.”

You've no doubt received your Manchester city council tax renewal notice
by now. I'd like to know how much of my £1800 is going to produce that
stupid "where your council tax money goes" booklet. Not to mention the
language translations, though I imagine that was a minor cost compared
to the booklet. Grr...

And what's with the annual 10%% odd increase in police post 2001? Yes, I
know the reason I'm given, but I suspect it's all bollocks- and just
central government moving the burden of funding onto local...

Gamekeeper in court over poison charges 11
http://tinyurl.com/2udgoq

A GAMEKEEPER and a land agent are facing trial after a raid by Royal
Society for the Protection of Birds investigators and North Yorkshire
Police on a remote Yorkshire Dales farm uncovered lethal poisons.
Gamekeeper James Freeman, of Moor House Farm, Lofthouse, Nidderdale
and agent Simon Clowes, of Lawkland Green House, Lawkland, Austwick,
near Settle, appeared before magistrates at Harrogate on Monday to
answer a total of 13 charges.

They heard prosecutor David Tucker argue that the allegations were so
serious, involving poisons which were potentially lethal and which
could have led to an accident involving multiple deaths that they
should go before a crown court judge.

Freeman, 56, faces nine charges and did not enter pleas to any of
them. Four claim that at his farm on May 22 last year he stored
pesticides, with active ingredients including sodium cyanide and
aluminium phosphide without approval while a fifth alleges use of a
sodium cyanide-based pesticide during 2006.
