Do I Laugh or Cry?

BBC World Service this morning at 5:30am, local time (North American
Eastern) had 3 news items in a row:

1. The worsening credit squeeze in the wake of the sub-prime mortgage
fiasco and the danger of negative equity likely to face British and
American homeowners with mortgages and the likelihood of this spreading
into the European Market. Thinks: Groan!!! WTF have we been working our
***es off for for the last 27 years??? Let's pull the pillows over our
heads....

Then...

2. Wimpy (the house builders) have banned wolf-whistling by their
builders and other construction site workers. They interviewed a handful
of women about this British institution, and couldn't find one that
objected, and most said it hadn't been a problem and that they rather
missed it now they weren't as young as they were. (Thinks: Wasn't it
1st April on Tuesday? Better get up.)

Being in neg. equity only matters if you are selling. Repossessions
are rising here, but interest rates are still low, so (I guess) it's
those
folks who are up to their ears in debt who're suffering. Last time we
had probs, it was because interest rates had shot up to 15%% and
that was hurting everyone.

I remember horrendous interest rates when we bought our first home, back
in 1980. Even if you plan to stay put with a mortgage, it is very
disturbing to see the market plunge.
