That is exactly what has happened here in Oakham. The council insisted on a
%% of affordable housing or afine. The developers paid the fine but more than
made up for it with the cost of the expensive properties they put up. The
council are too naive - or maybe too involved.

If you happen to have access to BBC Radio Cumbria - well, gosh, everyone has
these days through the magic of the internet - have a wee listen on
Wednesday morning about 7.45am when Belfagan will be dancing on the radio
for your pleasure and delight.
Apparently they're doing a "12 Days of Christmas" feature this week, and
each morning a different reporter has had the job of finding the Partridge
in the Pear Tree, or the Seven Swans a-Swimming or whatever. When one
reporter was given the task of finding Nine Ladies Dancing, the answer was
obvious, and she came along to Belfagan's practice this evening and recorded
much rhythmic stamping and clomping in clogs and jingling bells to the
accompaniment of Bridget and me on accordion and sax. I don't know how long
the programme will be, but it should be a laugh! Listen in if you dare!
I gather it's repeated about 6.10pm on Thursday if you miss it on Wednesday.

If I were so inclined - i.e., if I agreed with Sleepy, which I don't - I'd
come up with counter-arguments to this, such as, "what's the point of
visiting dead people? It's not as though they derive any benefit from your
visit so why bother?" and so on. But I don't agree with him.
Not that I bother visiting my dead relatives. I prefer to think of them the
way they were when they were alive.

Except of course that we have immunisation programs, clean
water supplies, sewerage, rubbish collection, urban renewal
programs, income support and child benefits, post-natal care,
Clean Air act,...

Well, I didn't mean criminalizing. Just getting some preventative
attention before a crime was committed.

Oh you will have Sleepy after you! Criminalising people before they have
actually committed a crime! I bet he can find a thousand Google references
to rebut you.
On the other hand, do you have policemen with the imagination to see what
you are saying?

It's like everything else. It's out there to be read.

That's what Americans driving polluting giant cars say. Damn the
environment and the health of other people. Individual rights are supreme!
Yeah. Right.

Where'd you get fascist dictatorships out of that?
