One of the statistics often thrown about goes along the lines of
"977.32%% of all rubbish on the streets is due to smoking/smokers".
IME - there is lots of litter from smoking - packets, fag ends, ash,
matches (who remembers them?), broken disposable lighters, etc.

Yes I agree. Since the removal of the toxic fumes several pubs that I
have visited are doing far better in terms of attendance and are
selling more beverage and much more food. Several have raised the
quality level of their menu as well which is certainly a good outcome.
Those wishing to smoke are typically accommodated outside on the patio
in the winter, and of course in the summer can sit at tables on the
lawn. As long as they are downwind, it's fine.
