What could a law like that mean anyway, since no one could be King
anyway once the Republic was declared.

So in what sense could such a law have been applicable anyway?

Makes you wonder what a 'law' is anyway, in practice.

I heard a rumour that English people have to practice the longbow every
Friday, by law. And that Welshmen found within the city of Chester
after dark can be shot dead on sight.

There's still a lot of silly laws that are still "active". For example it's
illegal to eat christmas pudding, it's illegal NOT to attend church every
sunday.

You can still be hanged for either treason or piracy (the high sea's piracy,
not the mp3 piracy).

If you spent some time and looked though all the old laws that are still
active you'll be quite surprised.
