	<description><![CDATA[Sinn Fein has said some of its politicians in west Tyrone have received threats,<br>including bullets.<br><br>It understood they were contained in packages which were left at a cemetery in<br>Strabane.<br><br>It is believed a local priest was then tipped off about the packages. Sinn Fein<br>said they do not know who was behind the threats.<br><br>In December, police reportedly warned Sinn Fein's Gerry Adams and Gerry Kelly<br>about dissident republican threats.<br><br>Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde said the threats to the Sinn Fein leadership were<br>"very real".<br><br>Republican sources said the threats to senior party members came from<br>disaffected IRA members who left the organization in recent months.<br><br><a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/1/hi/northern_ireland/6267415.stm" rel="nofollow" class="url" target="_blank">http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/1/hi/northern_ireland/6267415.stm</a><br><br>My, my, my, how times have changed indeed...  I can remember a time when the<br>very idea of "Republicans" dissident or otherwise would send death threats to<br>the SF leadership was simply inconceivable!  <br><br>It's almost as if I have left the land of reality and entered the land of<br>alternative reality...  Where the Unionists and SF are fighting the Loyalists<br>and Republicans to try to finally bring about a real peace!    <br><br>My view of Dissidents remains the same...  They are NOT interested in peace in<br>Ireland...  They are not even interested in politics per se...  They ARE<br>interested in being the "big man on the block"...  The hooligan who uses his<br>"connections" to intimidate people...  But this same hooligan probably couldn't<br>spell Pearse, nevermind tell you about his life and reasons why he was forced to<br>take up arms!<br><br>I fear that SF, like the Unionist DUP now sense the "end game" and are now<br>engaged in a chess like game of trying to position themselves...  Ah... To hell<br>with it...  <br><br>Final word:<br><br>SF - Stop being wankers and support the PSNI (we all know the leadership has for<br>more than a year) let your supporters "man up" and get with it...  It's the way<br>towards actual political peace!<br><br>There WILL be a United Ireland...   But perhaps, not on SF terms...<br><br>Anything that brings a New Day... 	<description><![CDATA[<a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/6249717.stm" rel="nofollow" class="url" target="_blank">http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/6249717.stm</a><br><br> Wednesday, 10 January 2007, 18:10 GMT<br><br>Omagh witnesses are investigated<br><br>The Police Ombudsman has launched an inquiry into the conduct of two key<br>Crown witnesses in the Omagh bomb case.<br><br>Forensics officer Fiona Cooper and Det Ch Insp Philip Marshall gave evidence<br>at the trial of Sean Hoey, the man accused of the bombing.<br><br>During the trial both admitted changing their statements on how some<br>evidence was gathered.<br><br>Mr Hoey, 37, of Jonesborough, County Armagh, denies 58 charges, including<br>the 29 murders in Omagh in August 1998.<br><br>Forensic evidence is a vital part of the case against him.<br><br>The prosecution claims that the south Armagh man made the bomb timers used<br>in Omagh and in a series of other attacks.<br><br>During cross-examination at Belfast Crown Court, Mr Marshall and Ms Cooper<br>admitted they had "beefed up" their original statements to suggest that<br>specialist forensic precautions had been taken at an explosives find, when<br>in fact, they had not.<br><br>The defence alleged this was done to strengthen the case against Mr Hoey.<br><br>It was also revealed that the original statements made by the witnesses had<br>been lost.<br><br>At one point the defence barrister, Orlando Pownall QC, asked for their<br>evidence to be excluded saying "their testimony is dishonest".<br><br>The prosecution lawyer, Gordon Kerr QC, told trial judge Mr Justice Weir<br>that he should treat their evidence "with caution".<br><br>The judge strongly criticised the conduct of the two witnesses and called<br>for an investigation into why some statements were altered, and the<br>originals lost.<br><br>BBC Newsline has learned that Nuala O'Loan, the Police Ombudsman, has now<br>launched a formal investigation.<br><br>Her investigators are examining the transcripts of the evidence given by the<br>witnesses and have also requested other relevant documents.<br><br>The judge has taken the unusual step of ruling that the investigation into<br>the conduct of witnesses can take place while the trial continues.<br><br>The ombudsman may request to speak to Mr Justice Weir about his concerns.<br><br>The police said they were co-operating fully with her investigation.<br><br>Previous disclosure<br><a href="http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/story.jsp?story=709656" rel="nofollow" class="url" target="_blank">http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/story.jsp?story=709656</a><br><br>Omagh: Top cop admits failings<br><br>By Jonathan McCambridge<br>12 October 2006<br><br>...
