Oh well, you Mac geezers are made for it. If you had a Dell or Compaq you
could get a keyboard for $80 and install it yourself. But you probably
don't know which is the working end of a screwdriver. So just get an
appointment and shell out.

With a MacBook I suspect it's going to be an expensive repair and a new
keyboard. I did the same on a PC keyboard and even after flushing with
distilled water the keyboard was never the same. If you even think of
cleaning the keyboard take the battery out first.

So it seems. I've tripped up and spilled coffee on the MacBook keyboard.
At first the arrow keys got stuck or didn't respond. After a long
shutdown and restart, the keyboard doesn't function at all. No light on
the caps lock key (I know many of you hate it, but that's a bit beyond)
or the numlock, no response from any key. Sys Profiler sees the
keyboard, the trackpad works ok (thus far) but I can hear the trumpets
of Doom of the four Angels calling...

Ok, anything I could do before giving up and starting looking for those
available Genius apointment slots?

Ooo no... a chess clock has to be hardware otherwise you don't get that
satisfaction of executing a particularly good move and giving the clock a
hearty smack.

If you did I would be happy to say you did.

So failing the lack of answer previously, are you actually going to give
the answer now?

  Jet-engine noise on sleep?

Author: Mark
Date: May 6, 2008 12:09

Last 4 or 5 sleeps on my iG5/1.6 have resulted in it powering up the fans
like a bloody jet engine before it finally sleeps. Last time this happened (2
years ago) it was the dreaded exploding capacitors (got the
midplane/motherboard replaced). Before I power this down for a look-see, is
there anything else that might be causing this?

Cheers ... Mark

OT'ish: Anyone managed to get XP SP3 to install?

Author: Ian McCall
Date: May 6, 2008 11:58

Am trying to run this in Fusion beta 2 - wondering if the problem is
VMware or just Windows. Can I hell get XP SP3 to download and install
via Windows Update. There's a long pause, followed by a "Failed to
install" message. No further details.

Anyone managed it yet?

Cheers,
Ian
