Use the Widgets widget - open the widget list (the plus sign in the
bottom let)f and drag the one called Widgets onto the desktop. Then use
that widget to remove the one you don't want - ind it in the list and
hit the red minus sign. It will prompt you about moving it into the
Trash, just say yeah.

I can deselect it so it doesn't appear on the desktop, but I can't move
it. It won't drag, and as I say there's no remove button.

You? No. The graphics card will fry, though

Use the Widgets widget to move widgets to the trash.

I'm not sure; that used to be possible, but IIRC it was turned off in
10.4.lownum.

  Epson printers and Leopard

My Epson DX4000 printer scanner has mysteriously stopped printing
anything when connected to my newish imac (running 10.5.2). Not really
sure when it stopped working as it's not used often. I've installed new
drivers from epson's webpage that are supposed to work with Leopard.
Strange thing is that not only does the scanner work alright but you can
print diagnostic pages from the ultility application. When you try to
print from anything else it launches the printer proxy but then does
nothing, the app says that the job is complete but the printer just sits
there. I've tried printing the test page from the proxy app's menu but
that does nothing either. I thought about resintalling the whole
printer setup from the CD-ROM but that won't even let me start it as it
seems to think...

Might be innocent - there's a button in Safari to turn any page or
selection into a widget, the button with the scissors and a marquee.

Might that have been pressed at all?

  Removing alien widget?

Author: Phil Taylor
Date: Feb 9, 2008 06:25

Yesterday my wife was using Safari on my iMac to trawl the web for
quotes on Pet Insurance. Today I open Dashboard, and there's a widget
there I've never seen before. It appears on top of the other widgets,
and consists of a very badly-designed order form for dog insurance,
with text fields and popup menus overlapping each other. I didn't know
that Safari could install widgets, and I'd really like to get rid of
it.

A quick trawl through Mac help showed me how to disable it so it
doesn't come up over the desktop, but there seems to be no way to
remove it entirely, as it has no Remove button.

How the hell has Safari managed to install some alien and non-removable
code on my machine without a password? My wife doesn't know what she
did to install it, and she doesn't even know my password.

Grrr
