Scrivener was, I gather, originally intended for writing a novel, and
also for screen plays, etc. I am using it for writing an article for a
book.
I doubt if I would use it for pure word processing, but the way one can
keep small sections of an article (or other piece) and rearrange them
and group them later, and also keep research notes to hand is very
useful.
It's a very particular tool, if it suits your needs it may well be the
best program, if not it may be pointless.

In the VMware Fusion 1.1.3 release announcement today they mention:
---
VMware Fusion 1.1.3 again allows users to enable unbuffered I/O,
otherwise known as "Optimize for Mac OS Application Performance," on
Mac OS X 10.5.3 now that Apple has addressed a bug that previously
caused a hang under heavy disk load when unbuffered I/O was in use.

- I don't like the dock rising from the swamp either - so I just
turned the magnification off - works for me.

Yes, that sounds right.

I think it is a useful tool for people with moderate word processing
needs.

Being a total newbie at these things, I'm rather proud of having got my
Airportless mini (running Panther) set up with a Netgear USB wireless
adapter and the Realtek driver. But the mini tends to drop the
connection when it wakes from sleep. (I expect it dropped the connection
when it *went* to sleep, but you know what I mean.) I can re-establish
the connection by physically disconnecting the adapter and reconnecting
it. But is there a way of doing this virtually, via the keyboard? I
mean, of course there is, but could someone please tell me what it is?
Thanks.

It's still bloody good as an all round tool, at the price. I am trying
very hard to think of a multi-purpose app than can manage *all* of its
jobs perfectly well. They all seem to bee very good at part of it, but
not all. AppleWorks is about the best I can think of, all of its modules
worked very well, albeit with a few bugs, but what hasn't?.
