Guidelines on uk.* Newsgroup Names

This document is intended to be a primer for use by those wishing to
create new NetNews (Usenet) newsgroups in uk.*, the specific hierarchy
for the UK which is managed by committee@usenet.org.uk, & for which
uk.net.news.config is the appropriate place to discuss new newsgroups.
It has been adapted from the document "Guidelines on Usenet Newsgroup
Names" originally written by David.W.Wright@bnr.co.uk.

Netnews news group names are structured, hierarchical, taxonomic but not
definitive. They are intended to help users find what they want and news
administrators manage their systems, to the benefit of their users. By
understanding each of these concepts, you can understand how to select
suitable names for new news groups.

Date: Jul 9, 2008 04:03

Archive-name: uk/hierarchy
Posting-frequency: every 8 weeks
Last-modified: Sun Jun 9 19:09:22 BST 2002

This document was accepted by the Fast-track method in February 1996.

The status of the document is that it is definitive as regards the wording
of the individual charters, but advisory so far as the introductory section
and the last section (on the status of the existing top-level groups) are
concerned. Charters for new hierarchies (or revisions to these ones) that
are accepted according to the usual Guidelines will automatically be
incorporated. The document is posted periodically to uk.net.news.announce,
and can also be found at <http://www.usenet.org.uk/hierarchy.html> from
which links to the charters for the individual groups can be found.

buy ?'. There's no really hard and fast rules other than you get
what you pay for. Good boots do cost a lot of money but you
can avoid paying over the odds for your chosen pair by
shopping around for the best price. Without going into an
enormous amount of detail, here are some things that you
might consider.
