Hi,
I know people have issues with Ebuyer, but I have never had issues
with them previously, and on the one time I needed to change
something, they were fine about it.
However, this time I am having issues.
I purchased the following item from them last week:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/123060
I got it and installed it on Friday, and subsequently found it to be
the RTM copy. Didn't activate this, and rung Ebuyer this morning. As
I am not a Microsoft system builder partner I don't qualify for any
support on this item, despite buying it with hardware which went into
the machine. My complaint isn't that I need support, but was given
the wrong product to begin with.
Do I have any milage in taking it up with trading standards, or is
there nothing I can do? I am quite happy to continue using the same
COA, but just have a newer DVD with SP1 included.
Advice appreciated.
Thanks.
Andrew.

Do you mean it's the retail product and not OEM? "RTM" means released to
manufacture.

Apologies. It was the version without any SP1 - just the standard
Vista I could have purchased 12 months ago.
Thanks.
Andrew.

Sorry, only just checked the ebuyer page - it says:
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate -SP1- Licence and media - 1 PC - OEM -
DVD - 32-bit - English
I'm surprised that they would not just swap it for you in that case, or send
you a CD with SP1 or something like that.

And what did they say?

It's a 400 MB download, which would take an hour on a reasonable internet
connection. Surely, the cost of telephoning trading standards will be more
than the cost of the download? Yes, ebuyer are totally in the wrong for
supplying the wrong thing, but sometimes it's simpler just to work round
other people's mistakes.

Thanks for the responses, I eventually just got the SP1 from the
Internet. I may end up going back to XP anyhow later down the road.
