After replacing David Baxter with a small shell script on Tuesday 05 Sep
2006 02:02, the following appeared on stdout:

You're very welcome. The thing I find with them is that they stock the
most esoteric parts imaginable. The last time I looked on their site
was for a DC-DC board for a FIC A450, something I could find nowhere
else. Most of the other dismantlers/suppliers hadn't even heard of the
A450. They had one.

Of course, I then found the two OSCons [1] on the original were duff so
I fixed that instead. JG, if you're reading this, that A450 now works
again (sans data, which was wiped using DBAN in 7 pass mode the minute
I got my sticky mitts on the HDD as promised). And I hate OSCons - I
always have, ever since the company I worked for the in mid-nineties
had a run of popping switched-mode PSUs caused by these things going
dead short.

[1] Organic Semiconducting Condensers, a low ESR polarised capacitor
developed by Sanyo and adopted without thought or reason by many
designers, not to be confused with a certain popular hackers'
convention. They're awful things (purple, usually, the same colour as
Bonzi Buddy which should be warning enough to the tech savvy) and don't
react well to thermal stress. Normal electrolytics are bad enough, but
these things....

PS: Yes, I'm off topic. This should be in uk.comp.vendors for the first
bit and uk.comp.homebuilt or similar for the second. Apologies, but
it's an interesting topic.
